Common Treatments of Forehead Wrinkles or “Worry Lines”

Wrinkles are like a dreaded disease that all of us would not want to have. Forehead wrinkles, in particular, make people especially because they are closely associated with worry and distress. Most people would spend a fortune to just stay young and look young.

What causes wrinkles? Aging is the primary cause of wrinkles. As we age, collagen production becomes scarce and even shreds off our skin making it less elastic and less flexible. Aside from the natural process of aging, unhealthy lifestyle like poor diet, vices as well as stress also contribute to wrinkles formation. Free radicals, pollutants and other harmful toxins cause terrible damage to the skin. Smoking, drinking and eating fatty foods wreak havoc to the skin damaging its natural tone and quality. Stress, on the other hand, causes the hormone cortisol to be secreted in higher levels causing skin's collagen to collapse. Thus, wrinkles formation is equated to high levels of stress experienced by a person.

The following are the most common types of treatments and preventive methods for forehead and other facial wrinkles. At the end of the day, you have to decide which one best suits you.

First on the long list is the traditional surgical face lift. Notwithstanding the fading popularity of this type of treatment because of the huge amount of investment involved, it still remains an option for some people. Aside from being the most expensive, this type is also the most risky. This surgical procedure is designed to erase the most obvious evidences of aging by draining excess fats, tightening the muscles beneath the affected skin and removing sagging skin. A perfect facelift can take five to ten years off your actual age and make you more attractive.

Botox injection is another procedure. Botox is the brand name of a toxin which paralyzes the muscles of the skin, thus preventing wrinkle formation and skin contraction. It is most often used on forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet. However, wrinkles caused by sun damage will not respond to Botox.

Laser resurfacing is the process of heating the skin through laser. The topmost layer of the skin peels off and new skin is allowed to grow. It is primarily used to reduce wrinkles, improve skin texture, reverse sun damage, tighten skin, target some pigmentation problems and help reduce scarring caused by burns, acne or trauma.

Cosmetic products and anti-wrinkle creams or lotions abound in the market but you should choose those with less or no chemical contents at all. Natural substances like jojoba oil, honey and vitamins A and E are some of the most effective in diminishing unwanted lines on the forehead and around the eyes.

Eating fruits and vegetables regularly and restraining from vices like smoking and alcohol drinking will help in the prevention of these dreaded wrinkles.

With a combination of any of these available treatments and preventive measures, we can say goodbye to forehead wrinkles and crow's feet. It is best to start young and be proactive, though. The saying which goes "an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure" applies to wrinkle management.
